The Homestead Organic Farm

Certified Organic Produce and Hay

Farming in Peachland, British Columbia, we grow organic veggies, herbs, and the odd bit of fruit for a weekly home-delivery program, the Penticton Farmers' Market, various grocery stores, and local chefs. If you're a horse or cow with a discerning palate for only the choicest Okanagan hay, we can help you out too.

Bottling for TH Wines, late March 2014

All veggies and no wine making for dull farmers, a group of us headed down to TH Wines in Summerland yesterday to help with some wine bottling. We learned that lots of Okanagan wineries, Tyler's included, don't own their own fancy bottling equipment because economics, Jordan, economics. Instead, they bring in a mobile unit to make the magic happen.

Special friend Vanessa and normal friend Nicole boxing wine in a tractor-trailer that arrived at 6am from The Future. Tyler considered contracting with one of this company's competitors before he noticed its slogan was Bottling Adequacy. Good decision, Tyler. Things went really smoothly.

We bottled 1000 cases yesterday. The video above shows a bit of the process.

Just about everytyhing happened on the trailer. My job as Dumper was to dump cases of empty bottles into a loud, angry machine whose hunger for glass was insatiable. I called it Kit because of my affection for Night Rider. I left having really enjoyed my role so when I got home I got online to find out more about the Dumper lifestyle by googling that term. Turns out the profession has a dark side.
